Christmas Season


Well, it's been quite awhile since I've posted anything to this blog.  Actually, have done very little writing in the past 8-9 months.  But my Mom was here visiting not long ago and she encouraged me to start writing again.  So, Mom, this is for you.

 Christmas time is here again.  When I was younger, Christmas was such a special time of year ~ loved everything about the season.  As I have aged, a certain sadness comes over me, and the season is a difficult one for me.  Of course, I am missing Daddy and thinking of him quite a bit.  And I am trying to focus on what this season is all about.  Christ and his birth, and his love for each of us. 
Since we've been in Florida, we've wanted to do an outdoor manger scene.  For the past three years, we could not find a manger set.  A couple of months ago, our neighbor gifted us with a set - someone from her American Legion was getting rid a set and our neighbor remembered we were looking for one.  So...this year, we have our manger scene. We put it up yesterday and are so happy with the results.  The only negative - being worried someone will steal the pieces since it is a 'christian' display and not commercial.  My sweet husband is going to find a way to secure the pieces and then I can rest easy.

 We are not focusing on gifts, but rather giving.  For it is in giving that we receive.  It is in loving others that we find happiness.  And for the first time in years, I am feeling the Christmas spirit return.  I am finding a peace within that I haven't known in years. 

Here is to the Christmas season, the most blessed, wonderful time of the year!

  And it has nothing to do with lions, tigers, and bears. Mom is not Dorothy, and we are definitely not over the rainbow in Oz, or in Kansas for that matter. 😅 Oh My! is Mom's new catch phrase.  When she sees her morning pills, 'oh my! these are all mine?' Precious Moments and Simple Joys

Look at this woman! How fortunate are we to share her final years. To bring her joy, contentment, security, and love. We are blessed beyond measure.  Mom loses her pens. I don't know how, or where they disappear, but they vanish into oblivion. The other day I was browsing Amazon and came across some puzzle books I thought she would enjoy (as you can see she does), and found these 'happy pens'.  They are the cutest pens - with different faces, and moppy hair. AND, she finds them delightful. Simple joys.  I've heard it said that children grow quickly. In a blink of an eye they are young adults making life choices on their own. Parents should spend time with their children, quality time. Parents shouldn't worry about messy rooms, or dirty dishes in the sink. I Cry

On 21 January 2013, my beloved brother-in-law suddenly passed away.  He went out for his walk, and never came home, having had a massive heart attack.  He left a loving, devoted wife and three children behind.  Not to mention a grieving extended family.  My heart aches for my sister and my nieces, and nephew; wanting to comfort and console, but knowing my words fall short so many times.  Some hurts are just too hard to write about.  But today, I was able to pen some words - imagining how my sister feels, and the emptiness that is now in her life.  This poem is dedicated to my dearest sister, Kate; my nephew, Matt; and my two nieces, Molly and Maggie.               I Cry I cannot face this world alone,  not sure I want to try; the future now so damned unknown,  with every tear I cry.
